Your eligibility for points is determined by your age on the day of your application.

The table below sets out the points available under this part of the points test.

Occupation

Points

If your nominated occupation is:

  • in demand (on the Migration Occupation in Demand List current either at the time your application is lodged or assessed)
    and
  • you have a job offer for full-time employment in Australia in your nominated occupation from an organisation that has employed at least ten (10) people on a full-time basis for the 24 months immediately prior to the date you make your application.

If your nominated occupation is:

  • in demand (on the Migration Occupation in Demand List current either at the time your application is lodged or assessed)
    and
  • you do not have a job offer.

Evidence to attach to your application

To receive extra points for a job offer, you or your spouse must obtain documentary evidence
of your job offer. This evidence must:

  • be written on the official letterhead of the prospective employer
  • indicate clearly on the letterhead, the full address of the employer, any telephone and
    fax numbers, and email and website addresses
  • have the name and position of the person authorised to sign the offer of employment
    typed or stamped below that person's signature. A letter with an illegible signature
    will not be accepted.
  • the letter should indicate what the position is and the main five duties to be undertaken,
    and the salary level.
  • the organisation making the job offer must also indicate the number of people it has
    employed on a full-time basis for the previous two (2) years.

 Points Awarded

You may receive points for satisfying one of the Australian qualifications critieria shown in
the table below. You can only be allocated points against one of these categories.

Qualification

Points

You have completed an Australian doctorate at an Australian educational institution after a period of at least two (2) years full-time (two (2) academic years) while physically present in Australia.

You have:

  • completed an Australian Masters or Honours degree (at least upper second class level) at an Australian educational institution while physically present in Australia and
  • prior to completing the Masters or Honours degree, you were awarded an Australian bachelor degree as a result of at least one year full-time study while physically present in Australia and
  • the total period of full-time study in Australia was at least two (2) years (two (2) academic years)

You have completed full-time study in Australia for a total of at least two (2) years (two academic years) towards the award of a degree, diploma or trade qualification.

Evidence to attach to your application

You or your spouse, where relevant, must obtain documentary evidence of having completed
one of the qualifications described above. This evidence includes:

  • a certified copy of notification of your results or a transcript of your academic record
    and
  • one of the following:
    -certified copy of your degree, diploma or trade certificate (if available)
    -a letter of completion from your educational institution which details:
  • the name of your course
  • the qualification you have obtained
  • the pattern of study – full-time versus part-time
  • the medium of instruction was in English

Regional Australia/Low population growth metropolitan area

'Regional Australia' or a 'low population growth metropolitan area' means anywhere in
Australia except Sydney, Newcastle, Wollongong, the New South Wales Central Coast,
Brisbane, the Gold Coast, Perth, Melbourne or the Australian Capital Territory (ACT).

Points

If you have lived and studied for at least two (2) years in one or more areas in 'Regional Australia' or a 'low population growth metropolitan area'.

Evidence to attach to your application
You or your spouse must obtain documentary evidence that you have lived and studied in
'Regional Australia/ low population growth metropolitan areas' as follows: This evidence
may include, but is not limited to:

  • documentary evidence of residency which covers the two (2) year period.
    This will usually include documents such as rental agreements and gas,
    power and telephone bills.
  • evidence of studying at a campus in regional Australia or a low population
    growth metropolitan area, if your academic transcript does not identify the campus.

Capital Investment in Australia

Under the points test, you may be able to claim additional or 'bonus' points if you meet one of the following options:

  • capital investment in Australia
  • Australian work experience
  • fluency in one of Australia's community languages – other than English

Note: You can only claim points for one of the above, even if you are able to satisfy
the requirements for the others.

You must have invested a minimum of A$100,000 in an approved government investment
for a term of at least 12 months.
